Home › Adrenal Fatigue Forum › General Questions › Life after hydrocortisone?
Hi there,
I have been on hydrocortisone for 7 months for adrenal exhaustion. I feel like I have gotten my life back! Last month I tried to wean off of the hydrocortisone, as recommended by my doctor. I tapered more slowly than he suggested, but when I got down to 0.5 mg twice daily I crashed. I went back to being exhausted all the time, foggy-minded, etc. So, tapered back up and am feeling back to normal. My doctor said we will try it again in 3 months. However, now I am worried that I won’t be able to get off the stuff, and I know I can’t take it forever.. I don’t want to go back where I was before hydrocortisone. Have any of you successfully tapered off of this drug, and gotten back to ‘normal’. Can you offer any ‘tips’ or encouragement? This is scary stuff. I am trying to eat well, get good sleep (with the help of cortisol manager), and am trying really hard to slow down on the days when my body tells me to. I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you! ~ Michelle
