    Hi Fawne,

I have read your book, and, apparently, I am in Stage IV of Adrenal Fatigue. I am 48 years old woman. My blood pressure has been low (90/60) for 4 years, and 1.5 years ago I experienced a dramatic weight loss of 20 lbs. Last winter my health worsened so much that it became difficult to function. The biggest problem was frequent migraines that caused me missing work. I should mention that I had a history of migraines for 10 years, but they had never been so frequent. I changed my diet, went gluten-free, cut down on sugar, and seemed doing better, but I started having noticeable problems with energy. That lead me to finding your book.
I started taking some supplements that you mentioned, including magnesium, and what I discovered is that magnesium causes me headaches. I was taking Natural Calm supplement. I never taken a full recommended dose of 350mg. First time I took 1/4 of that, 2nd time 1/2, and last time I took only 1/8th of that dose, and every time I got a headache in the morning. Last time it was very bad, like a mild migraine, I actually was throwing up. It’s like my body cannot take any stand-alone magnesium. I also remember not feeling well in the morning after I took Epsom salt bath the night before. But the multivitamin that I have been taking (Whole Foods brand) contains 300mg of Magnesium (as aspartate and oxide), and I have no bad reaction from it.
Fawne, could you please explain why that might be happening? Why am I intolerant to Magnesium? Is that related to adrenal function? Since it might something to do with electrolyte balance, I would like to mention that I never had a craving for salty foods, which, as I understand, is one of important symptoms of adrenal fatigue. Five years ago I went on vegan diet and cut down on salt significantly. I never had problems with reducing my salt intake. But I always had major sugar cravings, and I succumbed to those. I did not stay vegan too long because I could see that it was affecting my health in a bad way. I was not consuming enough protein. But right now I eat a wide variety of foods, including eggs, meat, and dairy, and not much sugar. I also would like to mention that other supplements are working, and I do have more energy now. But I feel that I need to figure out the issue with Magnesium, if I want to fully recover.
Sorry for being so long. I hope you can give me an advice. Thank you!

Hi Svetlana! I looked up Natural Calm and I see that it contains magnesium citrate. Magnesium glycinate is usually the best absorbed type of magnesium, and gives the fewest side effects.

Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water too.

And also make sure that you are getting enough salt – if you cut it back too much, low sodium levels could be a factor in your headaches. I hope that helps!
