Hi. I am really confused about the amount of supplements and herbs I should be taking. I have suffered severe chronic fatigue for over 2 years and 8 months ago had an adrenal test from a nutritional therapist which confirmed I have adrenal fatigue stage 3. She gave me about 12 different supplements and I developed some constipation, after having a colon cleanse the therapist told me I was taking way too much and its putting strain on my body. I have cut down but also taking quite a few herbs. I am taking daily powdered vitamin C in water, liquid magnesium, omega 3 fish oil, b-complex, ashwaganda, ginseng & licurice tincture, rhodiola rosea, turmeric and chorrela daily. I have started accupunture this week and the therapist says I am taking too much and the herbs can be very strong, but I am not sure which ones to stop and what to take. I am very confused about it all as every where I read contrasting information. Am I taking too much and what should I stop/continue with??
Yes, that seems like a lot! Taking that many supplements, all starting at the same time, certainly doesn’t give the body much time to adjust. All those supplements need to be metabolized and excreted, which can actually put more stress on your liver and body, not less.
Have you considered cutting back on the supplements and focusing more on other factors? A healthy diet, low stress levels, and the right kinds of regular exercise are all extremely important for getting back your energy levels. Fawne and Dr. Eric mention all of those supplements in their book, but they also spend a lot of time talking about other ways to recover.
Thanks for your reply. I think I will have a few days off them and maybe introduce one or two back. Do you think thats what I should do? I am really focused on diet too and other lifestyle factors. Im so tired at the moment I cant do much anyway! I will have a look at the book. Many thanks.
Yes that sounds like a plan! Stick with it, and the changes you make will start to pay off soon 🙂
Do you find yourself constantly fatigued, and struggling to get out of bed in the mornings? Do you feel unable to cope with stressful situations? If so, you might be suffering from Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome.
